It's Time to Party Like a Panda!! This is one of the cutest party themes for kids! It's simple to complete the look with all kinds of black and white supplies.
But one thing....I'm not a fan of black frosting on a cake! It's unappealing and leaves you looking like you were sucking on a Crayola marker. THIS is an adorable, easy cake idea and will NOT leave anyone with black teeth.
Pandas eat bamboo, pretty much all day, every day. And these filled wafer cookies look a lot like bamboo. Perfect!
I used Pirouline cookies filled with dark chocolate that I found at Dollar Tree. Pepperidge Farm makes Pirouette wafers that are very similar, just without the darker color stripe around the outside. Those would work great too and are available at most grocery stores.
Bamboo has leaves, so I wanted to add a little greenery. It could be done with frosting, but I'm not that fancy with a frosting piping bag. I wanted something simpler, so I found this faux greenery at Hobby Lobby in the floral department. Anything green with tiny, tiny leaves will work.
Cake. Greenery. Cookies. Let's gooooo!
Start by snipping off little pieces of the greenery into 3/4 inch pieces. Make sure you have a little bit of stem at one end without leaves. You can cut off a couple of leaves if you need to. That will give you room to stick the stem into the filling part of the cookie.
Next, cut the cookies (with a knife) to varying sizes with the tallest ones around the same height as your cake or a little taller. I suggest eating the extra little pieces of cookie that you cut off.
To finish making your bamboo, just insert the greenery stem into the wafer cookie. The filling inside the cookie should hold it in place. Repeat for all the cookies.
Then...the truly magical part....start putting the bamboo around the cake! Fill in as much as you like. The frosting should work like glue to hold the cookies in place.
Done. So simple and so cute You can order your own panda cake topper and personalized name topper right HERE!
