This monkey cake is so cute it's BANANAS! The best part is how easy it is to decorate!
So simple, but let's break it down anyway.
Start with a chocolate frosted cake and a box of Runts candy. One movie theater size box of Runts was just enough for the top and front of cake. If you want them to cover all the way around the back of the cake too, you'll need 2 boxes.
Separate out the banana candies from the rest of the fruity flavors.
Just press the candies gently into the frosting to make them stick. The contrast between the chocolate frosting and the yellow bananas looks amazing!
Add a few or go bananas and add a ton of candies!

If you're looking for some simple decorations to fill in space on the cake table for a party, might I suggest a plant and a bunch of bananas? So simple, but they make the table look fun!
Or....if you're looking for a little extra monkey decoration, here's a quick DIY using a stuffed monkey that you can hang over the table.
Supplies:
- Metal floral hoop (mine was 12")
- Stuffed monkey (no larger than your hoop when it's sitting down)
- Needle & thread
- Leafy garland (this was from the party section at Hobby Lobby)
- Ribbon to hang from the ceiling
Start wrapping the garland around the hoop. Depending on the length of your garland and the fullness of the leaves, wrap tighter or looser to your liking.
If you make it around the hoop and still have more garland left, go ahead and overlap until you run out of garland.
Then you will probably need to help the shape of the wreath just a bit...use the wire in the leaves and stems to make them go where you want and tuck in any leaves that are sticking out in funny places. Keep finessing it until you can hold it out and you're happy with the shape.
Now, getting that cute little monkey to sit in the hoop; it only took one stitch! Using a regular needle and thread, go down and up, right on the top of the monkey's head (sorry little guy!)
Leave the thread long on both sides of the stitch and put the monkey in hoop, right where you want him to sit. One strand of the thread goes in front of the hoop and the other strand goes behind the hoop and tie them in a knot. This will keep the monkey from falling out of the hoop.
Use any type of string or ribbon to hang the monkey from the ceiling. When the party is done, just snip the single stitch out of the monkey's head and he's back to a regular stuffed animal to hug and squeeze.
